Big Lunch 2024

Great Chart Playing Fields

14 Jul 24 - 11:00 to 14:30

Join us for our annual celebration of community

Join us once again on Great Chart Playing Fields for a celebration of the communities of Great Chart, Singleton and Chilmington.

Following the ethos of the Big Lunch we welcome families with their own picnics and blankets to come and find a space on the fields to enjoy the free activities and performances, and make new memories, possibly with new friends.

But at the same time we have a number of food and drink vendors onsite, as well stallholders and local clubs and groups hosting activities for their own fundraising efforts. Please bear in mind that a number of stallholders will be cash only so please bring along some pennies.

Below is a list of just about everyone coming along on the day. But the playing fields are huge so if you wanted to come along with your small business or local organisation please contact us. We welcome performers from all (family friendly) genres and we never turn away a volunteer!

The Parish Council will have their own stand where you will be able to find out more about what we do, and how you can join in. The parish council funded Singleton Community Fridge will also be there to promote the project but also collect in any dry food that you may want to clear out of your cupboards but not throw away.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

The bouncy castles will be back as they are always the thing we get the most positive feedback on. So come along and jump to your hearts content (all day long if you want to). There will be a big castle for the big kids, a small castle for the small kids and a soft play section for the tiny ones.

If you are looking for food and drink:

Waynes Whippys will be there with the ice creams

Blooming Beans Coffee will be serving the hot drinks and baked goodies

LE Treats will be bringing his delicious donuts

Air of the Dog will be blowing up their inflatable pub to serve cold drinks and pull some pints

And after their welcome efforts at rustling up a BBQ with 2 hours notice last year, Cllrs Gathern and Wiffen will be running a more prepared Parish Council BBQ this year. £2 for a burger or a hotdog. Want cheese? Want onions? Want ketchup? Help yourself, it will still be £2 – and they will also have a card machine for payments

We’ve got a growing list of stall holders coming along on Sunday, so bring along some pennies and see if you would like to buy something from;

East Kent Baby Memorial Gardens will be there with their Smiley Face Tombola

Claire will be bringing along the world of Avon

The Dogs Trust will be coming along with information about some of their lesser known services and pictures of cute dogs

R&R Dog Treats will be selling low fat natural dog treats to take home to your own canine companions

Caremark will be coming along to talk about domiciliary care and what help can be provided in your own home

Pilgrims Hospice will be there with a raffle and children's games to fund raise

Dreamdragons will be doing some fundraising activities and promoting their drama group

Pabsnlilah will have some cards and gifts on sale

Dandelion Moon will be bringing along her increasing range of fabric accessories

Explore Learning will be running activities to promote their education services

2 of a Kind Crafts, Teresa and her pretty hair boutique, and Joanne and her pocket money toys will also be there.

We have also invited along a number of scouting and guiding groups to either fundraise or help us run the event - say Hi to 1st Singleton Scouts if they help you park your car

And Singleton Environment Centre will be running an activity to make fabric flowers, one to take home, and one to go to the Centre to promote their new resilience garden

Our performers this year should keep you entertained. We’ve got two sessions of beautiful concert band music from Ashford Concert Band, singing from Ashford Rock Choir, and the Ashford Community Drum Band will be drumming the event out from 2pm

Flora the Singleton Giant will be wandering around the fields delighting and scaring small children in equal measure, and if the weather is on our side Pilgrims FC and Great Chart Cricket Club will be putting on some sporting activities to help wear everyone out.

Please remember that our car park is small so if you can, please walk or car share. And a number of our stall holders are small business and local volunteer led groups who do not have card payment facilities so please bring some cash with you on the day.

And if you could remind Mother Nature that it is in fact summer, Sunday should be a fantastic day for everyone and we look forward to meeting you all.
