Job Title: Community Engagement Officer
Location: Great Chart with Singleton Parish Council
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 (depending on experience)
Hours: Full-time

Job Purpose
The Community Engagement Officer will play a vital role in fostering strong relationships between the Parish Council and the local community. This position involves outreach activities, organising community events, facilitating public engagement, and working with various stakeholders, including residents, charities, and local organisations. The goal is to ensure that the Parish Council remains accessible, responsive, and engaged with the needs and aspirations of the local community.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Outreach
· Build trust and maintain relationships with residents, service providers, and community groups.
· Facilitate open communication between the council and residents, ensuring their voices are heard.
· Encourage and promote community participation in local decision-making.
· Act as a point of contact for residents and stakeholders, addressing concerns and providing relevant information.
· Attend and support local events organised by community groups, clubs, and partner organisations.
Project Development & Event Management
· Develop, plan, and execute at least five community events per year.
· Identify local needs and work on initiatives that inspire and mobilise residents.
· Work with stakeholders to coordinate venue hire, materials, and logistics for events.
· Evaluate the success and impact of engagement activities and provide recommendations for improvements.
· Ensure that all projects align with the Parish Council’s strategic goals.
Communications & Marketing
· Develop and distribute marketing materials to promote community events and initiatives.
· Use digital platforms, social media, and print materials to enhance communication with residents.
· Work closely with the Parish Council team to ensure clear and consistent messaging.
· Prepare reports, newsletters, and updates on community engagement activities.
Partnerships & Collaboration
· Develop and maintain strong working relationships with charities, public sector organisations, and local businesses.
· Partner with local schools, youth groups, and community organisations to enhance engagement opportunities.
· Support collaborative initiatives that benefit the wider community.
Skills & Qualifications
· Minimum 2 A Levels & GCSEs (Grade C or above in English & Maths).
· Experience in a similar role, particularly in community engagement or project management.
· Strong project management skills, including devising, organising, and evaluating events and initiatives.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse groups.
· Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
· Strong marketing and promotional skills, particularly in event planning and community outreach.
· Full UK Driving License required.
· Local knowledge of Great Chart, Singleton, and surrounding areas would be an advantage.
Budget & Resourcing
· Responsible for managing budgets related to community events and engagement projects.
· Source funding opportunities and sponsorships to support community activities.
· Ensure cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high-quality engagement initiatives.
Success Criteria
· Achieve increased resident participation in Parish Council activities and decision-making.
· Successfully plan and deliver five community events within the first year.
· Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, local organisations, and stakeholders.
· Enhance the Parish Council’s visibility and engagement through effective communication.
· Develop sustainable projects that provide long-term benefits to the community.
